What's New?

Though only in its fourth model year, Hyundai has decided to refresh the Santa Cruz. Now, there's a restyled grille and front bumper for all models. The XRT receives even more like a unique front-end with tow hooks, exclusive 18-inch wheels, and new daytime running lights.

As for the interior, there's now a single panel dash containing two 12.3-inch screens and an updated software interface with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. This new system also has over-the-air updates and features USB-C ports, as well as a fingerprint scanner.

Design

Unlike most other pickups that have a similar boxy design, the Santa Cruz shakes things up by offering a sleeker, more angular design with beveled doors, resulting in a unique aesthetic. However, the Santa Cruz is only available with a four-door crew cab and a four feet long bed.

Although, the interior does have one of the nicest cabins among both the compact and mid-size pickup segments. Inside, drivers, for the first time, will find a fully digital gauge cluster and a traditional shifter on the center console instead of a rotary knob or push buttons.

Performance

Two powertrains are offered for Santa Cruz. There's a 2.5-liter, 191-horsepower four-cylinder and an upgraded turbocharged 2.5-liter 281-horsepower four-cylinder. Each engine is attached to an eight-speed automatic transmission. And when properly equipped, the Santa Cruz can tow upwards of 5,000 pounds and haul around 3,500 pounds.

Technology

The Santa Cruz is available with various features and amenities. The SE and SEL trims now feature a 12-inch touchscreen, but higher trims come with dual 12.3-inch displays mounted together in a single, curved panel. One screen acts as a digital gauge display, while the other acts as an infotainment center. Features include wireless device charging, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, and Hyundai's Blue Link. With Blue Link, Visalia and Madera drivers can remotely lock and unlock the doors and start the Santa Cruz using an app on their phone, through the Internet, or with Amazon Alexa.

Safety

Hyundai has a reputation for developing safe vehicles, and this continues to be the case with the new Santa Cruz. Across the board, Hanford and Selma shoppers will find advanced driver-aids such as driver-attention warning, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert. In higher trims, shoppers will find safety features like adaptive cruise control, a 360-degree camera system, and a blind-spot camera system.
